Mother's Day Weekend 5/8/10

What a pretty weekend! I got myself up there Friday night using a couple of Aleve and woke up at the crack of dawn on Saturday to get out and do some weeding. I used the string trimmer to clear weeds by the front gate so that the place doesn't look like it is abandoned. I also did some watering and some work on the back hill where Nick has a couple of sunflowers finally sprouting. I put in an automated water thingy and attached the sprinkler hose to it to water there. I also threw more seeds out to see if we can get something to sprout. Really heavy clay there.. so it will take a tough plant to make it. Here are some strange and ackward pictures from the weekend.. first the wildflowers.
more poppies - they close at night and open when the sun hits them

yellow lupine? never saw it before but it is blooming in my front yard

And now for the bugs... it is that time of the year.. all the bugs are doing bug things....
Have you ever seen a blue caterpillar? A little strange but wait..

These bugs were on my deck - one on top is 4 inches and the one on bottom is 2. No idea what they are but pretty sure I know what they were doing.

I got some water hyacinths from my friend at work and snuck to the neighbor's pond to throw them in. It is at the corner of my street and is not technically on my property but I worry about it. When I got there I saw all the tadpoles of the California tree frogs that have been making so much noise.

Back to work tomorrow... Hope this strange windy then sunny then rainy weather makes up its mind soon!
